What’s in Jiyugaoka?

Jiyugaoka is a fashionable and sophisticated area of Tokyo and a hidden gem for tourists if you wish to get away from the busy crowds. Jiyukan is conveniently located near Jiyugaoka station, which is only a 10-minute train ride from Shibuya Station. The town of Jiyugaoka is easy to stroll around on foot and you can always check where you are using the free city-wide Wi-Fi.

The neighbourhood is said to be one of the most desirable places to live in Tokyo. The appearance of the streets and shops is somewhat similar to Europe. There is even an area modelled on Venice with real gondola! What makes Jiyugaoka so unique is there are no big-name department stores or shops. It has an abundance of fashionable boutiques, homeware stores, trendy restaurants and cafes. You can always find something interesting on its narrow streets.

Jiyugaoka is also famous for sweets. In fact the signature mascot character is called ‘whipplun’ – being shaped and modelled on whipped cream. You can find the character above the phone near the station.
You can try many kinds of desserts at a local sweets theme park called ‘Sweet Forest’.

Alternatively you can try some Japanese traditional sweets at Kameya Mannendo – a long-established sweets shop in Jiyugaoka. It is located just around the corner from Jiyukan.
